Company Description
Jouzour Loubnan is a Lebanese NGO established in 2008, dedicated to restoring the country’s woodlands and promoting sustainable reforestation. The organization has planted, nurtured, and protected 350,000 native trees across Lebanon to date. With a strong focus on scientific research, Jouzour Loubnan collaborates with the Faculty of Sciences at Saint Joseph University through the Biodiversity Conservation Initiative to restore ecosystems and conserve threatened species. The association actively involves local communities, raises awareness on the importance of forests and biodiversity, and encourages support from residents and the Lebanese diaspora. Jouzour Loubnan is one of the leading organizations working towards Lebanon’s environmental sustainability.
Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Planning & Implementation:
Conduct initial assessments of the project area to evaluate soil, climate, and biodiversity conditions.
Plan the selection and planting of appropriate trees, shrubs, and crops to enhance soil fertility, improve water retention, and ensure economic benefits for local farmers.
Develop and implement agroforestry systems and projects tailored to each considered region's ecological and socio-economic characteristics.
2. Beekeeping integration:
Identify and plant bee-friendly flora (e.g., nectar-producing trees and plants) within the agroforestry system.
Design apiary locations to ensure optimal conditions for bee colonies while aligning with agroforestry practices.
Support the integration of beehives into agroforestry plots and contribute to training farmers on beekeeping practices.
3. Procurement Support:
Assist in the procurement process of supplies and equipment needed for agroforestry and beekeeping activities.
Provide technical specifications and recommendations for selecting appropriate tools, seedlings, shrubs, hives, irrigation systems, fertilizers and pesticides and other resources.
Ensure that procurement aligns with project goals, timelines, and budgets.
4. Capacity Building:
Train local farmers and project beneficiaries in agroforestry techniques and sustainable land management.
Provide ongoing technical support and guidance to ensure proper implementation of practices.
Train local farmers and communities on sustainable beekeeping practices, including hive setup, maintenance, and honey extraction.
Develop training materials on agroforestry and beekeeping and conduct practical workshops.
Raise awareness about the importance of pollinators in agroforestry and agriculture.
Help the communication team in creating scientific content for social media posts and other awareness campaigns, presentations or activities.
5. Monitoring & Evaluation:
Regularly monitor the progress of agroforestry activities, including plant survival rates, soil health, and crop yields.
Analyze and report data on environmental and socio-economic impacts.
Identify challenges and propose adaptive solutions to improve project outcomes.
6. Community Engagement:
Collaborate with local communities to promote awareness about the benefits of agroforestry.
Facilitate stakeholder meetings and maintain good relationships with local authorities, NGOs, and other partners.
7. Resource Management:
Oversee the allocation of project resources, including tools, seeds, and labor.
Ensure sustainable use of natural resources to prevent overexploitation.
8. Reporting:
Prepare periodic reports detailing project progress, achievements, and lessons learned.
Contribute to financial planning and reporting related to agroforestry components.
Needed Profile
1. Education & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, environmental science, or related fields.
Specialized training or coursework in agroforestry, sustainable agriculture, or natural resource management.
Specialized training or coursework in beekeeping, or a strong willingness to complete an advanced course in the field.
2. Experience:
0 - 2 years of experience in agroforestry, or sustainable farming, or afforestation projects.
Proven experience in handling community-based or rural projects is a plus.
Familiarity with the Baalbeck-Hermel region, including its ecological and socio-economic context, is a strong asset.
3. Skills:
Knowledge of agroforestry techniques such as intercropping, soil fertility management, and tree-planting strategies.
Knowledge of beekeeping practices is an asset.
Familiarity with grant compliance and reporting requirements.
Excellent communication skills to engage with local farmers, stakeholders, and the project team.
Ability to train and educate others on agroforestry and beekeeping practices.
Multilingual abilities: Arabic and English are essential; French is a plus.
