Consultant - Advanced training on Agroforestry

Objective

The objective of this training is to strengthen the capacities of 21 farmers through advanced technical training on agroforestry, enabling them to better understand agroforestry approaches and effectively implement agroforestry systems and related sustainable agricultural practices.

 

  1. Scope of the work:

The consultant will be responsible for:

  • Preparing a detailed training agenda.

  • Preparing training materials and presentations for the training sessions.

  • Delivering advanced agroforestry two training sessions, one for 10 farmers in Iaat and one for 11 farmers in Tamnin, with separate training sessions conducted in each village, tailored to the agricultural context of the Bekaa region. The training shall cover, at minimum, the following topics:

  • General introduction on Agroforestry systems design explaining the Tree – crop – animal interactions:

    • Importance and management of cover crops

    • Importance of the integration of animal components in agroforestry systems, including pollinators (e.g., bees) and other suitable livestock options.

    • Selection of suitable tree and crop species

    • Contribution of agroforestry to climate resilience and biodiversity conservation

  • Application for our project: olive trees, thyme, bees and cover crops

    • Olive tree pruning and orchard management practices

    • Thyme maintenance and management practices

    • Impact on water management and soil fertility

    • Long-term sustainability and management of cover crops

    • Maintenance and long-term management of agroforestry systems

    • Why use of biofertilizers & biopesticides in agroforestry systems

    • Economic and environmental benefits of agroforestry

  • Responding to farmers' questions and facilitating technical discussions.

  • Conducting pre- and post-tests to evaluate participants' knowledge of agroforestry practices and measure learning outcomes.

  • Submitting a final report summarizing attendance, participants' engagement, key outcomes, challenges encountered, and recommendations.

 

  1. Deliverables

The consultant is expected to submit:

  • Detailed training agenda

  • Training materials and presentations

  • Attendance sheets

  • Pre- and post- training test results

  • Post-training report summarizing attendance, participants' engagement, key outcomes, challenges encountered, and recommendations

 

  1. Duration and location

Duration: 2 training sessions of 1.5 hours each in Iaat and the same in Tamnin over a period of two days for more efficiency

Location: Iaat and Tamnin villages- Bekaa area

Tentative period: Between July and mid-August

 

  1. Required qualifications

The consultant should possess:

  • An advanced degree in agronomy or related field

  • Proven extensive knowledge and professional experience in agroforestry or related field

  • Proven extensive experience in delivering technical training

  • Proven technical experience in the management of olive orchard, thyme cultivation, cover crops, and their integration within agroforestry systems

  • Familiarity with community-based projects/experience in working with NGOs

  • Strong facilitation, communication and reporting skills

  • Knowledge of the agricultural context of the Bekaa region is considered an asset

6. Reporting and coordination:

The consultant will coordinate directly with the Project Manager and the Agriculture Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

CSR & Partnerships

  • Identify, pitch, and secure CSR partnerships and sponsorships for Adopt a Cedar.

  • Draft simple MOUs and maintain a partner pipeline and follow-ups.

  • Coordinate corporate planting/volunteering days with the field team, handle logistics and on-site hosting.

  • Steward partners through timely thank-you letters, basic impact reports, and visibility deliverables.

Outreach & Communications

  • Prepare clear, compelling content (messages, captions, one-pagers, presentations) for web/ email/SMS, and for social media posts in collaboration with the social media consultant

  • Support event planning, talks, booths, and community activations.

  • Capture and organize photos/testimonials from activities in coordination with the field team and the social media consultant

Adopt a Cedar — Program Operations

  • Respond to inquiries, guide donors through the adoption flow (forms, payment confirmation, data collection), and ensure accurate records.

  • Prepare, edit, and issue adoption certificates (names/messages, corrections) and coordinate re-issuing when needed.

  • Schedule, brief, and support adoption officers during plantation, tags installations, and visits; ensure protocols, safety, and donor experience standards are met.

  • Coordinate printing/engraving, numbering, and packaging of tree tags; prepare installation lists and liaise with field teams for placement and verification.

  • Plan and execute social media and/or SMS campaigns for seasonal pushes (e.g., holidays, planting season); track basic performance metrics.

  • Keep Adopt a Cedar website pages, forms, FAQs, and partner logos updated; report bugs, request small improvements, and test changes before publishing, in collaboration with the IT.

Awareness Sessions & Media Representation

  • Proactively contact schools, universities, companies, community and youth groups; book sessions, confirm logistics, and maintain a simple outreach calendar.

  • Prepare age/sector-appropriate basic presentations, activities, and handouts (Arabic/English; French a plus) tailored to each audience and aligned with Jouzour Loubnan’s key messages, in collaboration with the team.

  • Lead engaging basic awareness sessions, workshops, and field briefings; manage Q&A, drive clear calls-to-action (e.g., Adopt a Cedar, volunteering), and adapt style to group size and setting.

  • Coordinate venues/AV, materials, transportation, and on-site needs; follow safety and safeguarding protocols when working with minors.

  • Collect attendance, feedback, and consented photos; share short summaries, leads, and next steps with the team.

  • Represent Jouzour Loubnan in media interviews, panels, and public talks; draft talking points, secure internal approvals, and coordinate with Communications for messaging consistency and post-appearance amplification (web, social, and press).

Program Coordination & Admin

  • Handle Jouzour Loubnan's phone number and receive phone calls for assistance.

  • Schedule and track planting activities; keep simple records (partners, trees, events, follow-ups).

  • Collect data and prepare brief progress updates for internal and external use.

  • Coordinate suppliers and service providers following basic procurement steps.

  • Update the database regularly in collaboration with the administration

  • Report to the Project Manager

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in public relations, political science, marketing, or other relevant fields.

  • 0–2 years in communications, CSR, outreach, fundraising, events, or related (internships/volunteer work count).

  • Excellent verbal and written skills; Arabic, English and French required.

  • Confident public speaking and presentation abilities.

  • Preferably based in Achrafieh or nearby with ability to be present every day at the office and at events (no remote work).

  • Able to work some weekends during planting season (October and November).

  • Valid Lebanese driver’s license and willingness to drive manual transmission car when needed is a plus.

  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office; basic design tools (like photoshop) and social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn).

Consultant – Beekeeping Training, Technical Supervision & Procurement Support

DESCRIPTION

1. Background 

Within the framework of the project "strengthening the capacities of civil society and rural communities in the governorate of Baalbeck-Hermel (Lebanon) in order to improve their resilience to economic, climatic and environmental shocks, with the financial support of Agence Francaise de Developement, and in partnership with Solidarités International and Farah Social Foundation,  Jouzour Loubnan will support 21 farmers located in Tamnin and Iaat in integrating beekeeping activities into their production systems. The intervention includes procurement of beehives (including bees and queen colonies), procurement of beekeeping equipment, training of farmers, and technical follow-up and monitoring. Jouzour Loubnan seeks to recruit a qualified Beekeeping Consultant to provide both technical training and procurement-related expertise. 

2. Objective of the Assignment 

  • Review and validate the technical specifications of the RFQ for beehives and equipment. 

  • Provide technical input to ensure quality standards of bees, queens, and materials. 

  • Assist in the technical evaluation of bids received. 

  • Deliver two advanced training to beneficiary farmers, one in each region. 

  • Conduct 4 follow-up visits to ensure proper implementation to ensure sustainability and proper management of beehives. 

3. Scope of Work 

A. Procurement Support (Pre-Award Phase) 

  • Review and validate RFQ technical specifications for beehives, bee colonies, queen bees, protective equipment, extraction tools, and maintenance equipment. 

  • Ensure specifications include disease-free certification, colony strength requirements, queen traceability, compliance with local regulations, and sustainability considerations. 

  • Advise on technical evaluation criteria and identify potential red flags in supplier proposals. 

  • Participate in the technical evaluation of bids in an advisory capacity, in line with procurement rules. 

B. Delivery Verification (Post-Award Phase) 

  • Verify that delivered hives, bees, and equipment conform to technical specifications. 

  • Inspect colony strength, queen presence and vitality, hive quality, and equipment compliance. 

  • Provide a technical acceptance note prior to distribution to farmers. 

C. Training Component 

  • Introduction to beekeeping and biodiversity integration. 

  • Proper installation and site selection for beehives. 

  • Colony management and seasonal practices. 

  • Feeding techniques and disease control (including Varroa management). 

  • Safe use of beekeeping equipment. 

  • Honey extraction, hygiene standards, and post-harvest handling. 

  • Basic economic sustainability principles. 

D. Follow-Up and Monitoring 

  • Conduct 4 field visits after installation.

6. Consultant Profile 

Education  

Degree in Agronomy, Apiculture, Agricultural Engineering, or related field. 

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on beekeeping experience. 

  • Demonstrated experience in hive installation and colony management. 

  • Experience training smallholder farmers. 

  • Experience reviewing technical procurement documents. 

Technical Competencies 

  • Knowledge of bee health and disease management. 

  • Ability to assess colony strength and queen quality. 

  • Understanding of hive construction standards. 

  • Familiarity with local environmental conditions. 

Soft Skills

7. Reporting Line 

The Consultant will report to the Project Manager and the Agriculture engineer.  

8. Payment 

The Consultant will be paid in 5 installments, one at the end of each of A, B, C, D and E task after remittance of its related deliverable.

Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Planning & Implementation:

  • Conduct initial assessments of the project area to evaluate soil, climate, and biodiversity conditions.

  • Plan the selection and planting of appropriate trees, shrubs, and crops to enhance soil fertility, improve water retention, and ensure economic benefits for local farmers.

  • Develop and implement agroforestry systems and projects tailored to each considered region's ecological and socio-economic characteristics.

2. Beekeeping integration:

  • Identify and plant bee-friendly flora (e.g., nectar-producing trees and plants) within the agroforestry system.

  • Design apiary locations to ensure optimal conditions for bee colonies while aligning with agroforestry practices.

  • Support the integration of beehives into agroforestry plots and contribute to training farmers on beekeeping practices.

3. Procurement Support:

  • Assist in the procurement process of supplies and equipment needed for agroforestry and beekeeping activities.
